Riset Grup PFHT memfokuskan dan memprioritaskan pada bidang kajian pangan fungsional hasil ternak, yaitu memiliki pendekatan tematik berbasis masalah yang menangani masalah kompleks dalam pengembangan pangan fungsional hasil ternak dengan sifat fungsional yang sangat relevan dengan masyarakat Indonesia, termasuk pemanfaatan sumber daya lokal yang mendukung manfaat kesehatan.

Pendirian Riset Grup PFHT untuk mendukung pengembangan tridharma perguruan tinggi terutama dalam memperkuat fungsi penelitian, dan pengabdian kepada masyarakat di bidang pangan fungsional hasil ternak di tingkat fakultas. Peneliti pangan fungsional Minat THT Fapet UB telah memiliki beberapa produk pangan fungsional hasil ternak berbasis sumber daya lokal Indonesia yang mempunyai potensi baik dan terbukti memiliki manfaat kesehatan.
